President's Message

July has arrived and June is in the history books! Our Steak Fry event was a good time for all that attended. The weather was beautiful and the steaks were great! Special thanks to Dusty, Jacob, Anthony and Rich - the LHFC Grill Team did a great job! And to our terrific bar tenders Mary and Joseph who made the trip all the way from Bethlehem to help us out. We helped sponsor the Findlay State Park Youth fishing event on June 18th. This year the weathercooperated and so did the fish! The kids caught a mess of Bass, Bluegills, Crappie and Catfish. Special thanks to Red, Rich and his son and Nick and Canine Family... Nick's German Shorthairs were a hit with kids as well as the adults. We served hot dogs and chips till the kids could eat no more. Several kids were the lucky winners of a new fishing rod and all participants got some tackle for future trips. The Lake Erie Walleye fishing was hot all month and will likely be all summer... shoot, if Carl and Larry can catch a limit and Zehe and Broud... well, need I say more? By general consensus and unanimous vote the July and August general membership meetings have been cancelled. Watch your email or check the website for updates. It's summer - get out and enjoy family, friends and all that our great state has to offer. Regards, Kevin

Membership Bulletin

I have had a handful of members who lost, misplaced, or otherwise cannot locate their badges for 2022. I just want to remind everyone that these badges serve as passes to access and use the ranges. If they are lost and someone else finds them, the finders will have access to the range; all they would have to do is access the website to get the address of the club. If this happens, it does so at a financial loss and liability risk to the club. While I have agreed to replace these wayward badges, I implore you to keep them in a safe location. I think next year we will have to levy some type of charge to replace a lost badge. For those of you who have yet to renew, it is not too late! Although the gate combination changes have taken place, you can still get to the range by paying your 2022 dues. I will accept renewals from all 2021 members throughout the 2022 calendar year. If you fail to renew for 2022 and wish to be a member in 2023, the original initiation fee of $250 will apply. So do your wallet a favor and get those renewals in! New for 2022 is the ability to pay with a credit card online! To do this, go to our new website, LaGrangeHuntClub.org, and check it out! Of course, we will still take dues at membership meetings in cash or check, or by USPS – simply send your renewal dues (in check form) to P.O. Box 131, LaGrange, Ohio 44050. They can either join directly online, or they can print the Application and Waiver and send via email (LaGrangeHuntClub@gmail.com) or via USPS to the address above.

Junior Membership

The Junior Members Fund will provide a sponsorship to help cover the camp fees for The Lake & Trails – Youth Hunting / Shooting Camp again in 2022. Our Junior Members President, Jace Walters himself has attended all four years of this camp, and plans on returning in 2022 as a Junior Instructor. Jace wants kids to go to this camp because it is a really good learning experience because you get to learn how to shoot many types of guns; including rifles, pistols, air guns, black powder and some archery items as well. You will also get the chance to throw axes, make a knife and even make primitive items. You will also learn about wildlife, how to trap, and even get your Ohio Boaters License and Hunter Safety Course if you need to. And most importantly, you get to hangout with other kids who like the outdoors like you do. To qualify for the sponsorship you need to help out at a couple general memberhsip meetings and do a work party. Attend a general membership meeting and talk to the Junior Members President, Jace Walters for complete details and to sign up. If you would like to contact Jace email him at Recreation@JaceWalters.com

When you patronize supporters of JaceWaltersRecreation and the Junior Membership please remember to tell their management THANK YOU for their SUPPORT!

Firearms Range News

A work party was held Sunday, June 26th. Fallen trees were removed from Wellington Creek and some mowing was done. Huge thanks to Mike Beckwith and Roger Maynard for their diligent service to the club. Also, a big thank you to Rhett Wegehaupt, Wayne Clemmons, and Joel Kristoff for showing up to assist.I feel it necessary to scold the bulk of the membership for their failure to participate in these work parties. The lifeblood of this club is its grounds, and Mike, Roger, and the couple of members who regularly show up for these cannot possibly keep up with all that needs to be done. If we cannot get more participation in the work parties, we may have to contract out some of the work, and the club can only afford to do that by raising dues.
Hours of operation: 10:00am-dusk, Mon.- Sat.Work Parties: None scheduled at this time. If interested in participating in future events, please contact Mike Beckwith or Roger Maynard and leave a message.Remember to lock the gate behind you when leaving. The locks must have the combination dialed in to close, then roll the dials to lock.Make sure you review and adhere to the rules: SAFETY FIRST!! Always, Always, Always, Always! We have never had an accident at our range – don’t be the first to break this 90-year-old record!  Remember your badge. Without it, you will be considered to be trespassing on club grounds and asked to leave! Sign in and sign out. Review the rules before each use of the range. They are posted on the boards. Pick up after yourselves. Police your brass and trash. Be courteous to fellow members. If you have any questions, or find a deficiency, please contact your 2021/2022 Range Marshal Mike Beckwith or Roger Maynard.

Archery Range News

Come spring, one of the first changes you will see will be in the 3D Archery range. More animals will be put out, and in a manner where they will not need to be removed in order to mow the grass. Future plans include creating a walking 3D course in order to help simulate hunting and tournament conditions. After that a slight redesign of the bag target range.

Special Announcements

2023 Wild Game DinnerFor the 3rd consecutive year, we were forced to cancel our annual Wild Game Dinner. The first 2 years were covid-induced, and while covid was certainly a concern this year, the primary issue was the lack of donations of wild game, without which we certainly couldn’t have a Wild Game dinner. This event is our 2nd largest fundraiser every year
