President's Message
And so goes another month into history... blink and May is all but gone. Earlier in the month the Walleye shallow water jig bite was crazy good and by month’s end those fish have moved off shore, but still only short runs to get at them in the 28- 40' range.
Our Farmers’ Fishing trip was Saturday May 14th and Mother Nature made it tough on the crew. A couple of the guys had the magic touch and did quite well, but overall it was a tough go for the others. And to remind all our retired members, a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work; your current working stiff members will gladly attest to that. Spring Turkey is wrapped up by now and some of our members tagged out and some not. But what’s to complain about? Getting up at O'dark thirty, driving to your spot, stumbling through the woods in the dark, bumping a deer in the dark that blows and makes you wish you had Depends on, get settled in, and if any luck, a tree gobble before sunrise. And then again, maybe no tree gobbles or no fly-down crashes through the tree limbs and only (drum roll, please)... silence.
They say silence is golden, but not so much when turkey hunting. And for this you got up at what time? Oh, but you'll do it again because when it all comes together it makes all those and-why-am-I-here? mornings worth it.
This coming Saturday June 4th the Steak Fry is on and it’s going to be a good time... good luck on all those raffles. Saturday June 18th is the Findlay State Park youth fishing event. Our club has been a sponsor for this event for many years running and this year will be no different. If you have few hours available that day and want to volunteer to help, please call me... you won’t be sorry if you donate a few hours of your time. The smiles on those kids faces makes it all worth it!
As an FYI, our range facilities will be used again this summer on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursday evenings by the Lorain County 4H shooting sports program. Range use for Club for members is not permitted while the youth is using the range. If you wish to come down and observe and maybe offer a few pointers, by all means please feel free to do so. Summer is all but upon us, so get outside, enjoy the weather and be safe in your travels.
Regards, Kevin
Membership Bulletin
You should have received your 2022 badges by now, but we all have experienced how unreliable the United States Postal Service is, so if you haven’t seen yours, let me know. Also included are your gun raffle tickets and instructions on what to do with them. Junior Membership
The Junior Members Fund will provide a sponsorship to help cover the camp fees for The Lake & Trails – Youth Hunting / Shooting Camp again in 2022. Our Junior Members President, Jace Walters himself has attended all four years of this camp, and plans on returning in 2022 as a Junior Instructor. Jace wants kids to go to this camp because it is a really good learning experience because you get to learn how to shoot many types of guns; including rifles, pistols, air guns, black powder and some archery items as well. You will also get the chance to throw axes, make a knife and even make primitive items. You will also learn about wildlife, how to trap, and even get your Ohio Boaters License and Hunter Safety Course if you need to. And most importantly, you get to hangout with other kids who like the outdoors like you do.
To qualify for the sponsorship you need to help out at a couple general memberhsip meetings and do a work party. Attend a general membership meeting and talk to the Junior Members President, Jace Walters for complete details and to sign up. If you would like to contact Jace email him at Recreation@JaceWalters.com
When you patronize supporters of JaceWaltersRecreation and the Junior Membership please remember to tell their management THANK YOU for their SUPPORT!

Come spring, one of the first changes you will see will be in the 3D Archery range. More animals will be put out, and in a manner where they will not need to be removed in order to mow the grass. Future plans include creating a walking 3D course in order to help simulate hunting and tournament conditions. After that a slight redesign of the bag target range.
