Our LaGrange Hunt Club Junior Members President Jace Walters, whom is a 4-time GSSF - CMP National Challenge Champion; is offering various firearms classes, including Pistol Handling & Safety and Introduction to Steel Shooting. These classes are FREE of charge and primarily for our youth members, but open to all LaGrange Hunt Club members and immediate family members. No prior experience is required, and all equipment and supplies will be provided for attendees.Interested parties should reach out to Jace directly to schedule a class. The classes will take place at GunHub USA (3953 Colorado Ave, Sheffield OH) utilizing their Laser Ammo training classroom. Elyria teen wins big at National Pistol Championships (The Morning Journal: Sunday 19 July 2026)

For the past four years, Jace Walters has been working toward one goal: shooting a perfect score at one of the nation’s premier pistol competitions.Jace Walters recently graduated from JVS in Lorain and will start basic training in the coming months. (Submitted)This year, the 18-year-old Elyria resident accomplished that goal twice.Competing in the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation CMP National Challenge, part of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s National Pistol Championships at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Walters posted two perfect scores of 500, earning overall podium finishes against a field that included adult competitors and elite military shooters.Walters finished third overall out of 89 competitors in the Stock Glock division with a score of 500-42X and second overall out of 28 shooters in the Rimfire division with a score of 500-45X.According to information provided by Walters’ family, he is believed to be the first junior competitor to earn an overall podium finish in the event’s history, accomplishing the feat in two separate divisions. His family also said he became a four-time Junior National Champion at the GSSF CMP National Challenge.“This really means a lot to me,” Walters said. “I’ve been shooting this match for four years now, and I’ve always been working toward shooting a 500. It shows that all the work and effort I’ve put into the sport has paid off.”The National Challenge is held during the annual CMP National Pistol Championships at Camp Perry, one of the country’s largest marksmanship events.Walters said the pistol portion of the National Matches spans about three weeks, with the GSSF competition taking place during that schedule.In addition to his two perfect scores, Walters shot a 496-41X in the Unlimited division and a 495-42X in MOS, missing just three shots outside the 10-ring across 200 shots during the competition.Walters didn’t begin his competitive career in shooting sports. He originally competed in archery at the national level before a shoulder injury forced him to look for another activity.“I had to go through physical therapy because of the repetitive motion from archery,” he said. “The range where I practiced had a gun range, so I decided to try an indoor winter league. Everyone was really helpful, and I just kept learning and going to more matches.”That support from experienced shooters helped him develop into one of the top junior pistol competitors in the country.“Everyone was willing to give me tips and help me learn,” Walters said. “That really helped me grow as a shooter.”Walters recently graduated from the Lorain County JVS and is scheduled to leave next month for Air National Guard Basic Military Training.He believes competitive shooting has prepared him for that next step.“It’s taught me a lot mentally,” he said. “I’ve learned how to work through challenges and stay focused under pressure. I think that’s going to help me when I go into the Air Force.”Walters also credited his father for helping him reach this point.“My dad has been my biggest supporter,” he said. “He’s traveled with me to competitions and helped me run my landscaping business so I could help pay for these events.”As his junior shooting career comes to a close, Walters hopes other young people will consider giving the sport a try.“My advice is to learn as much as you can from everyone,” he said. “Go to local matches, talk to people and ask questions. Everybody was really helpful when I was getting started, and that’s a big reason I’ve improved.”

Membership Bulletin It’s TIME to Re-up for 2026!

Your 2025 badge will expire on March 31st, 2026. On April 1st, 2026, the combination to the club grounds gates will change, and unless you have paid your 2026 dues, your access to the club grounds will end. So, please, get those dues in! The 2026 season goes from April 1 2026 until March 31st 2027. Based on the calls and emails I receive, it is painfully obvious that many members never bother to read club correspondence. The 2026 dues schedule is outlined below:Regular Members (under age 65 at the beginning of 2026): Total = $175.00, comprising of dues of $125.00 plus $50.00 gun raffle tickets.Senior Members* (age 65 and over at the beginning of 2026): Total = $150.00, comprising of dues of $100.00 plus $50.00 gun raffle tickets.Golden Age Senior Members* (born in 1947 or earlier): Total = $110.00, comprising of dues of $60.00 plus $50.00 gun raffle tickets.Officers/Trustees/Active Military: $50.00There are three different methods of renewal:1. Website: (LaGrangeHuntClub.org > Membership > Membership Application / Renewal.)2. In person at a General Membership Meeting (See 2026 Calendar) We can now accept credit cards!3. By U.S. Mail. Every year, a number of late-payers begin complaining about lack of access. It takes some time to process, create, and mail out badges. The surest and easiest way to ensure range access is uninterrupted is to pony up before your current badge expires.

Junior Membership

The Junior Members Fund will provide a sponsorship to help cover the camp fees for The Lake & Trails – Youth Hunting / Shooting Camp again in 2026. Our Junior Members President, Jace Walters himself has attended all four years of this camp. Jace wants kids to go to this camp because it is a really good learning experience because you get to learn how to shoot many types of guns; including rifles, pistols, air guns, black powder and some archery items as well. You will also get the chance to throw axes, make a knife and even make primitive items. You will also learn about wildlife, how to trap, and even get your Ohio Boaters License and Hunter Safety Course if you need to. And most importantly, you get to hangout with other kids who like the outdoors like you do. To qualify for the sponsorship you need to help out at a couple general memberhsip meetings and do a work party. Firearms Range News

Hours of operation: Monday through Saturday: 10:00am-duskSunday: Noon-5:00pmWork Parties: Roger will contact those who have previously expressed a wish to help. If you wish to be added to his list, please contact Roger Maynard or Mike Beckwith and leave a message.Remember to lock the gate behind you when leaving. The locks must have the combination dialed in to close, then roll the dials to lock.Make sure you review and adhere to the rules: SAFETY FIRST!! Always, Always, Always, Always! We have never had an accident at our range – don’t be the first to break this 94-year-old record!  Remember your badge. Without it, you will be considered to be trespassing on club grounds and asked to leave! Sign in and sign out. Review the rules before each use of the range. They are posted on the boards. Pick up after yourselves. Police your brass and trash. Be courteous to fellow members. If you have any questions, or find a deficiency, please contact your 2025 Range Marshal Roger Maynard.

Archery Range News

We offer our members both a bag and 3D archery course.The range is open Sunday through Saturday from 9am to sunset.

Special Announcements

Calling All Tradesmen! Your Club NEEDS you!The rental house the club owns (and provides a not-so-insignificant amount of income) is in need of repairs. The septic system is under repair as I write this, but the house also desperately needs a bathroom remodel. We are hoping to save $$$ on this by appealing to the membership for assistance.
